The Terry Ranch, located just north of the town of La Junta, is the perfect spot for folks who want to experience the rugged terrain of southeastern Colorado without venturing far from US Highway 50. The ranch offers shortgrass prairie pastures and sandstone canyons and bluffs. In the uplands look for Cassin’s Sparrow and Lark Bunting; in the canyons, check the cottonwoods for Red-tailed Hawk, Great Horned Owl and American Kestrel. The ranch offers horseback rides and distant views of the Spanish Peaks and the Wet Mountains. Stop by or contact Devorah Terry at the La Junta Inn and Suites at (719) 384-2571 or LaJuntaInn@hotmail.com. While in La Junta be sure to check out the Cattle Baron Steakhouse, the first producers’ cooperative steakhouse in SE Colorado, for some culinary delights and to support local agriculture.
